Wrapped Shoes

Shoes

Part of my ‘wrappings and bindings’ project.  Modrock (plaster gauze), elastoplast and tights.  Background rather ineptly doctored with Paintshop to remove distractions.

  1. I am having a reaction to these but I don’t know what it is. Just something going on inside. They evoke something but I can’t analyse it. Weird.

I like them. Reminiscent of ballet shoes in many ways.

  2. Hi Beth,
I think art sometimes does that. It evokes a reaction that is hard to put into words.

My intention was that they would be reminiscent of ballet shoes, but that they would be made of things that are uncomfortable (bandage, plasters, tights). We wear these things to look good, but they actually cripple our feet (well, they do mine.) I was playing around with ideas like these.

  3. I really like these Carole – something incredibly appealing about them. I’d love to have them hanging in a corner of my house somewhere.

  4. Mithi,
Thank you! They are really easy to make. All you need is a pair of shoes that you don’t mind sacrificing; some cling film and some modrock. Lovely stuff to use is modrock.
